Through UNIV-150…

          UNIV-150 has been very helpful as far as assisting and supporting my writings. In the beginning of this semester my writings had many grammar and punctuation mistakes, and often hand my writing would get out of topic. UNIV-150 helped me clear most of my confusions in my writing. First I feel that I should give most of the credit to my English professor, Mr. Michael Holt. He not only teaching us in class but was also an English tutor outside of class. He understood my struggles exactly and worked with me with his best. Peer review was another activity that affected my English positively. During the first peer review, it was difficult to find any mistakes on fellow classmates’ paper, but now I know what to focus on and where to pay more attention in order to properly peer review other people’s essay. In this class we had two oral presentations. Public speaking is one of my biggest challenge, and apart from taking a public speaking course this semester I was able to have two extra practices through UNIV-150. Fellow classmates were all positive and never belittled each other. In a class like this where the course is designed to help the students with writing assistance, often times some writings need more monitoring, and whenever we did a peer review we did it with respect for the writer, and never made fun of other people’s mistakes. As a non-native speaker, I was going through a difficult times. Now that this semester have passed, I feel guilty whenever I give excuses about my English proficiency. At first I was ashamed to be taking this course; however, now that I am through this course I am much rather thankful that I went through this course. Many of my questions as far as writing have been answered through this course. Writing was never a fun activity for me. Even now I do not enjoy writing, but because of this course I feel that writing became easier and I am starting to get a hang of it.
